In Memory of Lewis E. "Babe" Dickens

1924-2007

Shoal Creek Saloon lost one of its closest friends this week, "Babe" Dickens. He and his wife Margaret were long-time customers and the pillars of the Shoal Creek Family. Lovers of life and Pearl Beer, they brought a new youthfulness and fun to the Creek in their own special way.

Shoal Creek will miss "Babe" immensely, but will always hold him dear in our hearts!

He will be greatly missed by his family. His loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Nauert Dickens, daughters Linda Kay Carr and friend John Spano of Austin, Diana Culberson and husband Billy of Dallas, Mary Jackson and Bobby Naivar of Austin, grandchildren Stephanie Gallegos and husband Andy of Leander, Garey 'Wayne' Jackson and fiancé Emily Vietti of Cedar Park, great-grandchildren Mackenzie Culberson of Rio Vista, Moira and Nathan Gallegos of Leander. He is also survived by his sister Josephine Newburn of Spicewood and sister-in-law Selma Milligan of Tulia, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Lewis was predeceased in death by his father and mother, brothers Charles, Oscar, Samuel and Eugene 'Hootie' Dickens, son Lewis E. 'Bubba' Dickens, and grandson William 'Derek' Culberson.

Lewis served the military from 1940 to 1943 in the 36th Division of the Texas National Guard and from 1943 to 1945 as a Lieutenant (pilot) in the United States Air Force. We especially want to thank Dr. Laura Guerrero and Dr. Robert Emerson and their caring staff, along with the staff at St. David's North Austin Medical Center 2 North Wing.
